Mississippi Braves News Release
Pearl, MS - The M-Braves got another strong start from Deunte Heath, but despite his best efforts, Mississippi fell to Montgomery Saturday night, 3-2.
For the eighth straight game, the Mississippi's opponent scored first, and for the second straight game, in the top of the first inning. Montgomery got off to a scorching start as they put up two runs on three singles and a walk.
The Braves tied it up with solo runs in the second and third. Greg Creek tripled and scored on Concepcion Rodriguez's sac-fly in the second and Brandon Hicks doubled and scored on Travis Jones second single of the game in the third. After three, the two teams were knotted at two.
Mississippi native JT Hall led off the top of the eighth with a bunt single. He moved to second on a groundout by Fernando Cortez and came in to score on a single by Cesar Suarez to give the Biscuits the 3-2 lead.
Deunte Heath was outstanding again as he gave up two runs, as many as he'd given up all season, in the first inning. He settled in and fanned nine over 6.1 innings before leaving the game with the score knotted at two. Brian Dumesnil (1-3) gave up a run in the eighth and took the loss. Brett Butts gave the Braves 0.2 scoreless innings and Kevin Gunderson tossed a scoreless two-thirds of an inning.
Heath Rollins (2-1) was just as good as Deunte Heath and he got the win for his efforts. He gave up two runs on seven hits over seven innings. Eddie Morlan threw one shutout inning and Calvin Medlock shut down the Braves in the ninth to earn his fourth save of 2009.
Game four of this five-game set will be Sunday afternoon at 1:05 ct. Mississippi's Scott Diamond (1-1, 5.21) will take on Montgomery's Ryan Morse (1-3, 5.17).
The first 2,000 fans will get a free Braves key chain. After the game, children 14 and under can run the bases at Trustmark Park compliments of Comcast Cable. Sundays feature the M-Braves FamilyFest when a family of four can get four dugout level seats, four hot dogs or hamburgers, four 16 oz. soft drinks, four bags of peanuts or cracker jacks, four M-Braves caps, two game programs and Fun Zone wristbands for the children for only $52 (regular price: $153).
