JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - An eighth-inning two-run home run by leadoff hitter Ryan Rogowski helped the Jacksonville Suns (21-31; 54-68) to overturn a lead by the Montgomery Biscuits (30-21; 64-57) Wednesday night and notch a 3-2 win at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
Rogowski's homer came with a full count and two outs in the eighth inning against Montgomery reliever Eddie Morlan. It afforded the Suns their first lead of the series en route to the series-evening win.
Morlan had taken over for Biscuits starter Heath Rollins, who worked seven impressive innings in his Double-A debut. Rollins allowed a first-inning home run by Ivan DeJesus but did not allow a baserunner past second base thereafter; he permitted only four hits and no walks, striking out nine.
The Biscuits established an early lead on Gaby Martinez's two-run homer in the first inning. The homer was Martinez's 20th of the season, placing him one behind Evan Longoria's 2007 year for the most in a single season in Biscuits history. He also ran his RBI total to 87 to take sole possession of first place in the Southern League.
The home run by Martinez, though, was the Biscuits' only hit with runners in scoring position. The Biscuits went just 1-for-9 in those situations.
The Biscuits send righty Jeremy Hellickson to the mound in the series' third game, set for 6:05 p.m. Central Time Thursday.
