MOBILE, Ala. - For the third consecutive ballgame, the BayBears punched out at least 10 hits with a 7-2 walloping of the Mississippi Braves on Thursday at Hank Aaron Stadium.

Tony Barnette (10-7) continued his hot streak on the mound as he won his fifth straight start by working seven innings while allowing just two runs during a seven-strikeout performance.

Barnette's two blemishes came in the opening two frames as Matt Young took him deep in the first while the Braves (62-61, 32-21) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second on a base hit by JC Boscan.

Javier Brito's ninth home run off Kris Medlen (5-7) put the BayBears (53-69, 24-28) on the board in the home half of the second while Chris Rahl's two-run single in the third pushed the BayBears on top for good.

Two runs came home in the fifth on a throwing error by right fielder Quentin Davis and an RBI fielder's choice from Rusty Ryal. Bryan Byrne knocked home a sixth-inning run with a single while Cyle Hankerd doubled Ryal to the plate in the seventh.

The BayBears continue their 10-game homestand on Friday when they play game four of their five-game set with the Braves. Cesar Valdez (2-3, 2.98) goes up against right-hander Deunte Heath (3-4, 4.26) at 7:05 p.m. Call (251) 479-BEAR for tickets or log on to www.mobilebaybears.com.

Key Player

Barnette was brilliant again as he improved to 8-2 since May 17 while taking over the league lead in strikeouts with 121.

Key Number

Brito's 9th homer was one of 9 hits against Braves' starter Medlen, marking the third straight game that a Mississippi starter has surrendered 9 hits.
