Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

Jacksonville, FLA - While Major League fans in Boston or New York might argue about who the best team in baseball is, there is no doubt about who is the hottest right now.

With the first half of the Suns 2006 Southern League season nearly complete, the team finds itself not only atop the league, but at the pinnacle of all of minor league baseball.

Through 65 games, the Suns record stands at 45-20, which is second best among the 165 teams that make up the minor leagues. Only the Triple-A Charlotte Knights are better, with a 44-18 record, just a few percentage points better than the Suns.

The Suns are in the midst of a team-record 12-game winning streak and have also won 22 of the team's last 25 games. That unprecedented run propelled the Suns to an 11 1/2 game lead in the division with five games to play. The Suns clinched the first-half title with nine games remaining, the earliest a Jacksonville team had ever secured a postseason berth.

Off the field, the Suns continue to shine. The team is averaging 6,222 fans a game, leading the Southern League in attendance. The Suns are averaging nearly 1,500 more fans per game than the next best team in the league.

With a postseason spot locked in, the Suns will finish the first half on the road at Mississippi before returning to the Baseball Grounds on Monday, June 19 to host the Montgomery Biscuits in the first series of the second half of play.

The Suns will host the first two games of the Southern League playoffs in September. Playoff ticket information will be released soon.

Tickets are on sale for the remaining games of the Suns regular season online at www.jaxsuns.com or by calling 904-358-2846.
