November 1, 2008 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
For the third time in four games at Young Arena, the Waterloo Black Hawks prevailed in extra time, pulling out a 4-3 shootout victory against the Green Bay Gamblers.
The clubs traded goals in the opening period. Eddie Olczyk started the scoring for Waterloo at 8:39, flipping a loose puck into the net. Green Bay answered at 11:56 with a power play goal on Taylor Johnson's high-slot shot.
A flurry of third period goals followed a scoreless second. Green Bay struck first when Anthony Hayes fired in a shot at 3:18. The Hawks bounced back at 4:52 when Tyler Barnes found Jordan Samuels-Thomas camped in front of the Gambler crease. Thirty-nine seconds later, Dan Sova's long shot found its way home. However, the lead only lasted until there was 3:17 remaining; Chris Saracino bounced a puck off a Black Hawk and in to tie the score. Saracino had assisted on both of the Gamblers earlier goals.
In the shootout, Eriah Hayes and Derek Arnold converted their chances. Parker Milner was perfect in the Black Hawk net after stopping 26 shots during regulation and overtime.
The Black Hawks return to the road Wednesday, visiting the Indiana Ice at 6:30.
