Arizona Sundogs News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Arizona Sundogs Hockey Club, in preparation for its home opener tomorrow night against the expansion Allen Americans, today unveiled its new white jersey for the upcoming 2009-10 Central Hockey League season. The white jersey is the first of three new sweaters the Sundogs will unveil this season and will be worn at home games at Tim's Toyota Center during the first half of the year.
"This represents another exciting milestone in the history of our franchise," said Sundogs Head Coach and General Manager Marco Pietroniro. "Our new uniforms represent a new identity first established last season with the purchase of the Arizona Sundogs by Bill Yuill and Consolidated Sports Holdings."
The white sweater displays the Sundogs' primary 'S' logo on the chest and carries the team's alternate logo on the right shoulder and the Arizona state flag on the left shoulder.
"We're proud to be Northern Arizona's professional hockey team and Sundogs fans have proved that hockey does work in Arizona," noted Sundogs Director of Business Operations Bill Yates. "We decided to carry the Arizona state flag on our jersey to symbolize our commitment to the sport of hockey in the state."
A solid red band runs up both sides of the jersey and is accented with narrow gold, white and black piping, the same pattern that can be found on the cuffs of the uniform. The neck of the jersey features a white collar and red lace-up closure.
The numbers on the white sweater are primarily red with a gold and black outline. The nameplate will also be red with a black outline. The white uniform will be complimented by black pants, black gloves, and a white helmet with white socks with alternating red, white and gold stripes.
In addition to the new look, the Sundogs have followed a trend recently established by National Hockey League (NHL) club the Nashville Predators with their new uniform sets and have employed a dye-sublimated process for all logos, numbers and nameplates in place of traditional twill. The dye-sublimation process prints directly on polyester fabrics under pressure and heat. Under high temperature and pressure, the dye turns into a gas and permeates the fabric and then solidifies into its fibers. The fabric is permanently dyed so it can be washed without damage. Several American Hockey League (AHL) clubs have also begun using this process.
"Because of the sublimation process we have employed, our jerseys will be noticeably lighter and ultimately more comfortable for our players during games," added Pietroniro. "We put a great deal of time and effort into creating a uniform that our fans and players will be proud to wear."
The Sundogs will introduce their red away jersey and black alternate jersey in the near future. The red jersey will become the team's home jersey midway through the season as the CHL changes from white to dark sweaters.
The Club expects to have a limited supply of white replica jerseys available for purchase in the Arizona Sundogs Team Store on Friday, with a full range of adult and youth sized white replica jerseys available in the coming days. Advance orders for red and black jerseys are being taken by calling the team store at 928-583-6612.
The Sundogs open the 2009-10 regular season at home at Tim's Toyota Center tomorrow at 7:05pm (Arizona time) against the Americans as they host the first 'Red Out' of the year. Single game tickets are on sale now and start as low as $14. Tickets are available by phone at 1-866-4-GET-TIX (1-866-443-8849), online at www.gettix.net and in person at the Tim's Toyota Center Box Office.
