March 9, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Arizona Sundogs News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Arizona Sundogs, in conjunction with the Central Hockey League, announced Monday that first-year player Adam Perry has been named a finalist for CHL Rookie of the Year honors.
Perry is joined by fellow rookies Darryl Smith of the Laredo Bucks, Jeff Pierce of the Odessa Jackalopes, Torren Delforte of the New Mexico Scorpions and Nicolas Dumoulin of the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees.
The Peterborough, Ontario native is the second-leading scorer for Arizona this season and ranks third among CHL rookies with 53 points (21g/32a) in 40 contests. Perry has appeared in 13 less games than rookie scoring leader Smith (34-31-65) and 18 less games than second-ranked scorer Pierce (16-40-56).
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound forward has also appeared in 11 games with the Sundogs' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage, tallying one goal, two assists and 19 penalty minutes (PIM).
Perry was named Oakley/CHL Player of the Week for the period ending February 1 after registering eight points (5g/3a) in three games against the Rocky Mountain Rage in late January. The 22-year-old garnered his first-ever professional hat trick with a four-point effort in a 4-2 win over the Rage on January 28.
Finalists were selected by the CHL front office following nominations from member clubs. Balloting will take place among CHL Head Coaches, team Communications Departments and selected media members to determine the recipients of the CHL's Most Valuable Player, Most Outstanding Goaltender, Most Outstanding Defenseman and Rookie of the Year awards.
Additional awards to be determined include Coach of the Year, Equipment Manager of the Year and Athletic Trainer of the Year, as determined by their CHL peers, along with six member All-CHL and All-Rookie teams. The CHL's regular season point leader will receive the Joe Burton Scoring Champion award, while the CHL front office will determine the recipients of both the Man of the Year (for outstanding leadership and contributions to the community) and Rick Kozuback (perseverance, determination and commitment to hockey) awards based on nominations and supporting material from CHL member teams.
