Sundogs Fall Short Against Undefeated Rush In 6-5 Loss

Prescott Valley, AZ - The Arizona Sundogs rallied back to erase their four-goal deficit in the first period but were no match against the undefeated Rapid City Rush in a 6-5 loss Saturday night.
Rapid City came out strong registering four unanswered goals in under six minutes. The Rush struck first tonight against the Arizona Sundogs registering their first power play goal of the season after Ian Schultz was sent to the penalty box for hooking allowing Jesse Schultz the opportunity to tip the puck in the net on a rebound goal. 1:26 later and Jared Brown shot a wrister on a breakaway and tallied Rush's second goal. Winston Day Chief scored their third goal with a rebound shot after the puck bounced off the pads of Arizona's goaltender Brad Fogal and Tristan Llewellyn notched Rush's fourth goal of the period with a shot from the point.
The Sundogs entered the second period with a four goal deficit and found themselves down another goal when Justin Sawyer tallied Rush's fifth goal with a slap shot from the blue line, his third in five games. Less than a minute later Paul Mcilveen put Arizona on the board when he slipped the puck past Tim Boron, 4:04 in the middle frame. The Sundogs would score their second goal while on the power play when Rapid City's Ian Schultz was issued two minutes for slashing, providing the Sundogs the opportunity they were looking for. Jason Morgan and Ryan Palmer were each sent to the penalty box after they were called for roughing after a hit on Kevin Baker. The Rush were 2-3 on the power play but Arizona denied them their third power play goal of the evening.
Eric Giosa lit the lamp 0:51 in the third period after he shot the puck into the back of the net with a rebound goal. Jordan Clendenning scored on the power play for Arizona after Bobby Preece was called for tripping sending him to the box for two minutes, and 19 seconds later Ryan Gaucher scored cutting the Sundogs deficit in half. With 1:20 left in the final period Clendenning would score his second power play goal of the night, closing the loss by a single goal.
Brad Fogal took the loss for the Sundogs but not without a few impressive saves of the evening. He made 25 saves in his debut as a Sundog while Tim Boron made 31. Rapid City out shot Arizona 36-31. Arizona was 3-7 on the power play and Rapid City was 2-5.
This concluded a consecutive five game stretch between both teams, whom they won't see again until January. Arizona moves on to Denver for a game before meeting the St. Charles Chill for a set of games.
