Arizona Sundogs News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Arizona Sundogs and Rocky Mountain Rage skated in a battle of expansion clubs Friday night at the Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley with the Sundogs topping the Rage by a score of 6-3. Players from Arizona including DaSilva, Bartolone, Vernace, Laperriere, Steeves and Kelly had multiple points in the contest.
Arizona would score its fifth-consecutive goal on the power play to take a one goal lead at the 19:07 mark to close out the first period. Albany assignee Dan DaSilva continued his scoring ways on a pass from defensemen Michael Vernace and Dan Laperriere. The goal would be DaSilva's fourth point in two games.
In the second period, the Sundogs would increase their lead to two on another power play goal. Vernace and Chris Bartolone would team up with Vernace scoring his third goal of the season. Rocky Mountain would tie the game with two power play goals in a 19-second span. Their first goal would be scored by Nathan Rosychuk from Dan Vandermeer and John DiPace. Craig Olynick would collect the second Rage goal unassisted. At the 7:58 mark, DaSilva would tally his second goal and third point of the night on a pass from Chris Bartolone and Brent Kelly. With just under three minutes left in the middle period, Kelly would end his 7-game home goalless streak firing the puck past Rage netminder Trevor Cunning on a pass from DaSilva and Bartolone. Tempers flared for both clubs in the second with each team gathering fighting and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.
At 3:13 of the third, Kelly would grab his second goal of the game from Ryan Steeves and Laperriere to give the Sundogs a three goal cushion. The Rage's Anders Strome answered back at the 10:15 mark with an unassisted power play goal over Arizona netminder Chris King's glove to cut the Sundogs' lead back to two. With 1:59 seconds left in regulation, Martin Doyle would add an empty net goal to secure the 6-3 win. Vernace and Laperriere were credited with the assists.
Arizona outshot Rocky Mountain 38-26 with Chris King stopping 23 shots while Trevor Cunning stopped 33. The Sundogs finished 3 of 8 on the power play while the Rage finished 3-for-6 with the man advantage. Next up for the Sundogs are the New Mexico Scorpions on Friday, December 15 and Saturday, December 16 in Rio Rancho.
