
Sundogs Drop Third Straight at Home, Lose 4-2

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - In their second meeting in as many nights, the Arizona Sundogs and New Mexico Scorpions squared off in a Southwest Division battle. It would prove to be a physical game as both teams gathered four unsportsmanlike conducts each in one-minute of play in the second period. New Mexico would get their second road win of the season in as many days, handing the Sundogs a 4-2 loss.
The Sundogs would strike first at the 3:57 mark of the first period. Torrie Wheat would collect his 11th goal of the season on a follow from Brent Kelly and Adam Campbell. Less than a minute later New Mexico would even the score on a goal from Mike Prpich. Jake Brenk and Kevin Harvey would be credited with assists on the play. At 10:05 of the first, the Scorpions would take their first lead of the game with Prpich tallying his second goal of the game. Rob Guinn and Christopher Robertson assisted on the play.
Physical play would increase considerably in the second period with eight unsportsmanlike conduct penalties handed out between both clubs in a one-minute span. At 6:34 of the second period the Sundogs would tie the game at two goals apiece as forward Torrie Wheat would notch his second goal of the game from Chris Greene and Dan Laperriere. At 17:36, the Scorpions would again take the lead, this time on a goal by Aaron MacInnis from Guinn and Mike Falk.
At 3:56 of the third period, Adam Campbell would be called for holding giving New Mexico its fifth man advantage of the night. Falk would take advantage, scoring the Scorpions' second power play goal of the night from Robertson, giving New Mexico a two-goal cushion, its biggest lead of the game. The two teams would display the making of a rivalry as three separate fights would occur within the last 45 seconds of the game.
David Cacciola would get his second win with New Mexico stopping 39 of 41 shots while Chris King stopped 18 of 22 shots in the losing effort. New Mexico improved their power play finishing 2-for-6 while Arizona was unable to convert on eight chances with the man advantage. Next up for the Sundogs are the Oklahoma City Blazers this Wednesday, December 6 at the Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley. Game time is set for 7:00pm.
