Sundogs Down Gorillas 6-5

Amarillo, TX 2/28/08 - The Amarillo Gorillas suffered their fifth straight loss on Thursday night at the Amarillo Civic Center, falling to the Arizona Sundogs by a final score of 6-5. There were eight goals scored in the first 15:31 of the game, as the Sundogs rode three power-play goals to an early 5-3 lead. Amarillo would get the only goal of the second period from Chris Martini at 10:43, pulling the Gorillas to within one, but Arizona would re-gain the two goal lead with Cory Urquhart's second goal of the game at 12:52 of the third making it 6-4. Austin Sutter would give the Gorillas a fighting chance with his second of the game at 15:04, but Amarillo could not get the equalizer, losing 6-5 and snapping a three game win streak against the Sundogs in the process.

Arizona would go 4-7 on the power-play, while Amarillo went 1-5 and out-shot the Sundogs 34-31. With the loss, Amarillo remained one point behind the Austin IceBats for the fifth and final playoff spot and has now played the same number of games as them, setting the stage for tomorrow night's showdown between the two clubs.

Amarillo will be in Austin tomorrow night, with a 7:38 PM faceoff time, and then head to Odessa for a game Saturday night, set to start at 7:05 PM.
