February 28, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release
Southaven -- As the RiverKings face off against the Tulsa Oilers 7:05pm at the DeSoto Civic Center, DeSoto Animal Rescue Society or D.A.R.S., will be the RiverKings featured non-profit.
DeSoto Animal Rescue Society rescues adoptable companion animals in DeSoto County, and offers suitable foster homes until permanent homes can be found. Interim medical care is another service of DeSoto Animal Rescue Society.
"Our organization does not have a shelter for the animals we serve," Wendy Badarello DARS representative explained. "We provide the animals homes until we can place them."
The DeSoto Animal Rescue Society has partnered with the RiverKings for the past four years.
"Our partnership with the RiverKings is very successful," Badarello explained. "The RiverKings' featured nonprofit nights help us to be out in the community. Any public awareness we get is beneficial particularly because we do not have a shelter where people can visit the animals we serve."
DeSoto Animal Rescue Society's major goal is to encourage the public to spay and neuter your pets.
"All the animals adopted out of our program have been spayed and neutered," Badarello mentioned.
At any given time D.A.R.S. has approximately 75 animals in their system. Last year D.A.R.S. found suitable homes for more than 400 animals.
Friday when DeSoto Animal Rescue is featured at the RiverKings game, they will have on hand two dogs and one puppy who are seeking good homes. D.A.R.S. will also be hosting a raffle at their table on the DeSoto Civic Center concourse Friday night. Monies from the raffle tickets will go to help D.A.R.S. and one lucky winner will walk away with a television set.
DeSoto Animal Rescue Society will be honored on Friday night by Harrah's Entertainment as well as the RiverKings. Harrah's will be presenting D.A.R.S. with a check for $2,000 as part of the RiverKings dashers for donations program.
The RiverKings dashers for donations program teams RiverKings sponsors, like Harrah's Entertainment, up with area 501(c)3 groups/organizations. A portion of the money that the companies pay to the RiverKings for advertisement and partnership is donated to a charity of the company's choice.
