Rocky Mountain Rage News Release
Bossier City, La. - In a showdown between two first-place clubs, the Northeast Division's Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs rode special teams to a 4-1 victory over the Northwest Division's Rocky Mountain Rage at the CenturyTel Center.
The Rage scored the only goal in the final minute of a first period played tight to the vest by both teams. Clay Plume chipped the puck out of his own end, which sprung Brent Cullaton on a two-on-one. Rocky Mountain's captain faked a pass to Trevor Weisgerber as he arrived at the top of the crease, fooling Mudbugs goaltender John DeCaro, before tucking the puck short-side to give the Rage a 1-0 lead at 19:34.
Bossier-Shreveport tied the game at one with the only goal of the second period on the power play. Matt York sent a wrist shot wide from the left point, but the puck caromed off the end wall behind the net right to Joe Ori who slid the puck inside the far post from a tough angle at 11:41.
Special teams decided the game in the third period as the Mudbugs went 2 for 2 and Rocky Mountain 0 for 3 on the power play during the final 20 minutes. Bossier-Shreveport's Chris Brassard squibbed home a puck from between the circles that appeared to change direction on Rage netminder Scott Reid for the eventual game-winner at 6:43. York then fired a seeing-eye wrister from the blue line that sailed through traffic for an insurance goal at 9:58. Ori tapped in an empty-netter at 19:22 for the 4-1 final.
With the loss, the Rage remain in first place in the Northwest by two points over the idle Colorado Eagles who now have one game in hand. Rocky Mountain is 33-15-5 with 71 points.
The Rage stay on the road when they face the Mississppi RiverKings for the first time this season on Saturday.
