Sun fall just short against New York
July 15, 2008 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA)
Connecticut Sun News Release
- Jamie Carey established a career high with 18 points against the Liberty, all of which came from behind the three-point arc. Carey's six three-point baskets also set a career high, surpassing her previous best of four against Phoenix on July 6, 2007. She had six of the Sun's eight three-point baskets tonight.
- The Sun dropped their fourth straight game with tonight's result, the first time that the team has reached that mark since dropping five consecutive contests a year ago. The New York Liberty was also part of the streak in 2007, handing the Sun its fifth straight loss on June 20 in Connecticut.
- Carey's six three-pointers is the fourth time that a Sun player has had that many three pointers in a game since the team relocated from Orlando prior to the 2003 season. The last Sun player to score six three pointers in a game was Katie Douglas against Houston (5/25/04).
- New York's Shameka Christon tallied her 500th career rebound and 100th career block this evening.
- The Liberty's Lisa Willis came off the bench to record a career-high with 18 points, surpassing 15 points at Sacramento (6/26/07).
- The Liberty netted 10 three point baskets (25 attempts), which is the second most allowed by the Sun this season. Connecticut yielded 14 against Atlanta on June 27.
- The Liberty were successful on all 15 free throw attempts this evening, the first time that an opponent made all of its free throws against the Sun this season. The 15 for 15 performance is the most free throws made without a miss by a Sun opponent in franchise history.
- The Liberty managed just two offensive rebounds in the game, the first by Janel McCarville off a miss by Cathrine Kraayeveld with 3:01 remaining in the second quarter and the second by Kraayeveld off a miss by McCarville with 2:19 left in the fourth quarter.
- The Sun held an opponent to under 30 points in the first half twice this season, both against the Liberty. New York tallied 26 points in a 77-63 Sun win on May 18, and recorded 26 first-half points tonight in the Liberty victory.
