Greensboro Grasshoppers News Release
LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Ryan Lillie tossed his second straight complete-game shutout as Greensboro snuck past Lakewood, 2-0, in seven innings in a fog-shortened affair on Thursday at FirstEnergy Park. Play halted in the middle of the seventh inning when the fog thickened.
Zach Sullivan drove in the game's only runs in the top of the fifth inning when the Hoppers outfielder belted a 2-run home run (2) to left field, scoring Cameron Baranek.
Lillie (4-1) again pitched well for the Grasshoppers, earning his South Atlantic League-leading second complete-game shutout of the season. He worked around three hits and struck out four while walking none, pitching 6.0 innings for Greensboro (24-27). The right-hander opened by retiring the first 10 batters he faced before Nick Maton singled with one out in the fourth inning.
Lillie's last start was a 7.0-inning complete-game shutout in the first game of a May 26 doubleheader at Hagerstown. Thurday's win was Lillie's fourth scoreless start of the season, all at least 6.0 innings long.
Kyle Young (1-2) took the loss for Lakewood, working all 7.0 innings for the BlueClaws and allowing two runs on four hits with six strikeouts and two walks.
Lakewood manager Marty Malloy was ejected in the middle of the seventh, arguing the game should have continued.
The Grasshoppers return to First National Bank Field on Friday to open a 3-game series against the West Virginia Power. Friday's game is a FANomenal Fireworks Friday presented by Lincoln Financial, Rock 92, and WFMY News 2 with gates opening at 6:00 p.m. and first pitch at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available online at gsohoppers.com.
