Greenville, SC - The Augusta GreenJackets took the lead in the middle innings and never looked back on Thursday at Fluor Field, as they cruised to a 9-2 victory over the Greenville Drive in the series finale.
A Victor Acosta solo homer leading off the bottom of the second staked the Drive (13-38) to an early lead, but the GreenJackets (33-17) scored nine unanswered runs from the fourth through the ninth to pull away.
Manuel Geraldo smacked a two-run homer to right-center field in the fourth off Jhonathan Diaz (1-5) to put Augusta ahead 2-1.
Three more runs came home for the GreenJackets in the sixth, highlighted by a Ryan Kirby two-run homer to right-center. They added two runs apiece in the seventh and eighth to tack on insurance.
The Drive plated one final run in the ninth, as Michael Osinski delivered an RBI single to score Zach Sterry, who began the inning with a double.
Diaz pitched well in defeat for Greenville, as he struck out eight Augusta hitters over five innings. Jason Bahr improved to 6-2 for the GreenJackets after allowing just one run in five innings.
Acosta and Lorenzo Cedrola notched two hits apiece for the Drive.
The homestand at Fluor Field continues on Friday night as the Drive host the Asheville Tourists, an affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, for a three-game series. The opener is set for 7:05 PM. Right-hander Alex Scherff (0-4, 6.55) starts on the mound for the Drive, and right-hander Will Gaddis (2-2, 6.23), a Furman University product, will start for the Tourists.
