York Revolution News Release
(July 10, 2016, Sugar Land, Tx.) - The York Revolution capped a tough road trip to open the second half with a 5-2 loss to the Sugar Land Skeeters on Sunday evening at Constellation Field. The Revs (42-35, 2-5) dropped three of four in their visit to Texas, and will look to rebound when they host the New Britain Bees on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. in the first game following the Atlantic League All-Star Break.
Sugar Land starter Jake Hale (2-2) earned the win, allowing just two runs over eight innings while scattering seven hits. The righty breezed through the early portions of the game, taking a shutout into the seventh while Sugar Land's offense built its lead.
The Skeeters scored single runs in each of the first three innings to take control early. Travis Scott picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice to bring home the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning. Josh Prince slapped a two-out RBI single up the middle in the second inning, and in the third, a bases loaded hit by pitch to Albert Cordero forced in a run to make it 3-0.
Revs starter Ty'Relle Harris rebounded with a quick 1-2-3 fourth inning against the top of the Sugar Land order, but a two-run homer to left by Kent Matthes in the bottom of the fifth increased the Skeeters lead to 5-0.
The Revs got on the board with two runs in the seventh inning. Joel Guzman led things off with a single up the middle and Michael Burgess followed with a bloop hit to left. After a fielder's choice put runners at the corners, Michael Rockett drove in York's first run on a ground out, and Brandon Chaves followed with an RBI single off the glove of Hale and into right field, bringing the Revs within 5-2.
Harris (2-3) rebounded with a scoreless sixth and struck out seven batters in the game, but suffered the loss. The righty battled around seven hits and three walks, stranding seven runners in his six innings.
Michael Click tossed a pair of scoreless frames out of the Revolution bullpen.
Each team tallied eight hits. Guzman, Chaves, and Jared Mitchell each logged two-hit games for the Revs.
Matthes led Sugar Land, reaching base all four times as he went 2-for-2 with the two-run homer, a hit by pitch, a walk, and a steal.
Notes: Harris has 16 strikeouts over 12.0 innings in his last two starts. Guzman and Mitchell extended hitting streaks to seven consecutive games while Burgess extended his to five consecutive games. Travis Witherspoon saw a seven-game hitting streak snapped. Friday night's opener against the Bees features the eighth installment of the "Celebrate York" Series presented by Memorial Hospital, as the first 1,500 fans receive a Loretta Claiborne Bobblehead Giveaway.
