Stryker Makes Pro Debut In Flyers Win

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Orange County Flyers took game two of a doubleheader 12-1 over the Tijuana Cimarrones extending their win streak to eight games, winning 17 of their last 19 games, to secure first place in the GBL South Division with a 19-5 second half record (41-28 overall). The Flyers benefited from 12 Tijuana walks and a hit by pitch resulting in six runs for OC.

Ted Stryker, afternoon drive on-air personality for KROQ 106.7 FM, made his professional debut starting in left field and leading off for the Flyers in the bottom of the first, grounding out to the pitcher on an 0-2 count in his only at bat of the game.

After being scoreless through an inning, the Flyers (19-5 2nd Half, 41-28) scored three runs in the bottom of the second. Derek Perren led off the second inning with his second homer of the day, his first being in game one, to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead. The Flyers added two more runs on a sac fly by Jimmy Rohan and a Sergio Pedroza RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0 over the Cimarrones (3-23 2nd Half, 9-62).

Up 5-0, Orange County tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Kevin Altman, the Flyers starting pitcher helped his own cause with a bloop RBI single, and Steve Boggs, Stryker's replacement, hit a sac fly as the Flyers led the Cimarrones 8-0.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Flyers added three runs while getting no hits. Keith Ginter hit an RBI ground out, Perren hit a sac fly, and Boggs got an RBI walk as the Flyers broadened their lead to 11-1. Ginter hit his fifth homer of the year in the bottom of the sixth to end the scoring for Orange County as they would go up 12-1.

Altman (6-4) picked up his fifth win in his last seven appearances pitching five innings giving up just one run and four Cimarrones while scattering five hits. Andre Simpson came in to pitch two scoreless innings to end the game, striking out three batters in the process.
