PCL1 Round Rock Express

Strong start by Roberts not enough for Express

Round Rock Express News Release

The good news for the Round Rock Express was that Nick Roberts made it three straight outstanding starts for the Express rotation. The bad news was El Paso's Shane Komine was just one notch better.

Komine and two relievers combined to limit Round Rock to six hits and got just enough offense to give the El Paso Diablos a 2-1 win.

Following Greg Powell and Ruddy Lugo the two previous nights, Roberts was equally dominant. He allowed only seven hits and got into trouble only in the third when Steve Stanley and Adam Morrissey drove in runs. Outside of that, Roberts turned in his best start of the year, also striking out nine in 7.2 innings.

Komine was equally effective in his 6.2 innings. Only two hit nights by Anthony Acevedo and Jacques Landry - who also drove in the only run - highlighted the Express lineup.

Komine (4-5) was the winner and Roberts (1-5) was the hard luck loser. Chris Mabeus threw a scoreless ninth for his fifth save.

The six-game series will continue with game three Wednesday at 7 p.m.
