Victoria Seals News Release

Calgary, AB - In search of their fourth win this season at Foothills Stadium, the Victoria Seals took on the Calgary Vipers in game two on Saturday night. With the Vipers handing Hideki Nagasaka (3-0) the start, the Seals countered with Chris Bodishbaugh (2-1) in the teams' fifth meeting in the last five days.

The Vipers were first on the board in the bottom of the second inning when Kit Pellow walked to set up a Rick Guarno an RBI single for a 1-0 Calgary lead. From there, the Victoria starter took the game over, allowing just that one hit through five innings at Foothills Stadium.

With their pitcher in cruise control, the Seals drew even courtesy of a solo shot from Brett Flowers to kick off the top of the fifth inning. Victoria then jumped into the lead when another lead-off home run, this time off the bat of Sergio Pedroza in the sixth frame, lifted the visitors to a 2-1 advantage.

Calgary responded to take the lead again in the bottom half of the inning, using a double from Kevin Price followed by a two-out triple from Caonabo Cosme and an RBI double delivered by Pellow to move out front 3-2.

Answering the challenge in the seventh inning, Victoria grabbed the lead right back when Gabriel Riley doubled and later scored on a throwing error to the Calgary third basemen. With Bret LeVier reaching on the miscue, Pedroza was intentionally walked, Jamar Hill scored a pair with a triple of his own, and Josh Arhart capped off the scoring with an RBI base hit to put the Seals on top by a 6-3 margin.

Padding their lead in the eighth inning, Victoria received two consecutive doubles from Flowers and Riley along with hits from both Pedroza and Hill to post a 9-3 advantage with a three-run top of the frame.

Despite an RBI single from Colin Moro in the bottom of the eighth, and a solo home run off the bat of Jorge Mejia in the ninth, the Seals used a complete defensive and offensive performance to snap a skid of six straight losses to the Vipers. With Javier Garcia on to polish off Calgary in the bottom of the ninth, Victoria takes game two by a 9-5 final score - just their third win this season when allowing the opponent to score first.

The best showing of the season from Chris Bodishbaugh helped the right-hander to his third win on the year, while reliever Andrew DeMott takes the loss for the Vipers. Several Victoria batters had a strong evening, including a 3 RBI performance from Jamar Hill and 3-for-5 outings from both Brett Flowers and Gabriel Riley.

Victoria wraps up this home-and-home series against the Vipers tomorrow afternoon at Foothills Stadium. The start time for the series finale is set for 1:30 p.m. (PT), and will be broadcast live at www.victoriaseals.ca.

The Seals then play host to the South Division leading Orange County Flyers for the first of a three-game series at Royal Athletic Park on Tuesday night.
