Worcester Bravehearts News Release
LYNN, Mass. - The Worcester Bravehearts proved once again that it is nearly impossible to bog down their offense for an entire game.
After trailing 1-0 after six innings, the Bravehearts scored one run in the seventh and ninth innings to sneak out a 2-1 victory against the North Shore Navigators on June 24 at Fraser Field in Lynn, Mass.
Despite striking out three times in the game, Worcester outfielder Brendan O'Reilly tied the game with a bases-loaded single with two outs in the seventh inning. With the game tied in the ninth, Ian Strom hit an RBI double to score shortstop Andy Lack all the way from first and give the Bravehearts the eventual game-winning run. North Shore pitcher Brady Wright took his first loss of the season, as he allowed the run to score in the ninth inning.
O'Reilly and third baseman Mark DeYoung each recorded two hits for the Bravehearts. O'Reilly finished 2-5 with an RBI, and DeYoung finished 2-3 with a walk and a stolen base.
With the game tied in the eighth, Bravehearts reliever and Clark University pitcher Miles Sheehan replaced his teammate Jordan Versteeg with one out and a runner on second. Sheehan struck out the first batter and forced a ground out to end the inning. Sheehan then struck out the side in the ninth inning to record his second win of the season.
Worcester starter Aaron Civale and North Shore starter Matt Rodriguez kept a decent pitching dual going for more than half the game. Both pitchers maintained a shutout, as Civale gave up six hits and struck out four in five innings pitched, while Rodriguez pitched six scoreless innings and struck out nine.
The Bravehearts continue their three-game road trip with a matchup against the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs at 7 p.m. June 25 at Doyle Field in Leominster, Mass.
