Pittsfield Suns News Release

PITTSFIELD, MA (June 24, 2014) - The Brockton Rox amassed 13 hits and seven runs against Pittsfield, defeating the Suns 7-1 on Tuesday night at Wahconah Park.

The runs started quickly for Brockton, scoring two in the first inning. Brian Bauk scored first after a lead off walk to start the game, a single from Devlin Granberg and a RBI-single by Tom Stoffel (10). Granberg would later come around to score for the Rox after a throwing error by the Suns third baseman, making it 2-0 Brockton.

The Suns lone run would come at the bottom of the inning. After back to back singles from Gary Tesch and Tyler Bell, Edgar Montes hit a sacrifice hit to third, advancing the runners. Tesch would score from third the very next batter as Jeff McGarry hit a sacrifice fly to center.

Brockton would plate an additional run in the fourth inning and another four runs in the seventh, highlighted by solo homerun by Max Ponzurick (2) in the fourth.

The 7-1 loss would be attributed to Suns starter Phil Reese (1-1) who gave up seven hits, two earned runs, two walks, while striking out four over the span of six innings. Rox starter Simon Mathews (4-0) had a strong outing, giving up only four hits, one run and whiffing five in seven and a third innings pitched.

The Suns return to Wahconah Park this Thursday, June 26th for World Cup Night. For tickets visit pittsfieldsuns.com or call (413)445-SUNS.
