Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (July 6, 2014) - Second baseman Christian Stringer belted two home runs to lead the Kannapolis Intimidators to a 12-7 win over the Hagerstown Suns on Sunday evening at Municipal Stadium. Kannapolis (41-44, 12-6 Second Half) snapped a 3-game skid while avoiding a sweep at the hands of Hagerstown.

Stringer, who finished 2-4 with a career-high five RBI and three runs scored, put Kannapolis on the board in the first inning with a 2-run shot and added to the Intimidators lead with a 3-run blast in the fourth. His first-inning home run was part of a 5-run inning that helped Kannapolis to a fast start, and Hagerstown never caught up.

It's the second multi-home run game for Stringer this season, whose first career two-home run game came June 24 at Hickory.

The Intimidators offense pounded out 14 hits, including a pair of doubles for both catcher Brett Austin and first baseman Danny Hayes. Hayes finished the night 3-5 with two RBI while Austin was 2-4 with two RBI.

Jordan Guerrero improved to 6-0 with the win, working 5.0 innings in his second start of the season. The left-hander gave up two runs on six hits while matching his career-high of five walks. Andre Wheeler and Jose Brito combined to allow five runs over the final 4.0 innings of work.

Suns starter Nick Pivetta (10-5) took the loss, allowing eight runs on nine hits over 3.1 innings, including both bombs to Stringer.

The Intimidators open a 3-game series in Greensboro on Monday against the Grasshoppers. First pitch at NewBridge Bank Park is at 7:00 p.m. on Monday night. The team returns home to CMC-NorthEast Stadium on Thursday, July 10, for a 4-game series against the Asheville Tourists.
