Asheville Tourists News Release
Asheville, NC--Everything was set up for Asheville to sweep their second consecutive series.
The Tourists took a 6-4 lead into the top of the ninth inning and the Lexington Legends had the bottom third of their order due up. Unfortunately for Asheville, the Legends rallied to score four runs in the frame. The Tourists did manage one in the bottom of the ninth, but in the end the visitors stole the season series finale by a score of 8-7.
The Tourists jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Michael Benjamin tripled home Max White and Benjamin then scored on Raimel Tapia's groundout to second. The Legends tied the game in the third. Dex Kjerstad singled in Humberto Arteaga. Kjerstad went to third on a throwing error and scored on a groundout by Alfredo Escalera.
Ashley Graeter put the Tourists in front 3-2 with an RBI single in the fourth. The next inning, the Tourists plated two more to make it 5-2. After the Legends made it 5-4 with a pair of runs in the sixth, Asheville managed a crucial insurance run in the seventh when Ryan McMahon singled home Emerson Jimenez.
Asheville took their 6-4 lead into the ninth but they were unable to hold it. With runners at first and third and two outs, Kenney Diekroeger drove an 0-2 pitch to the right-centerfield gap tying the game. The next batter, Frank Schwindel, singled in Diekroeger to put Lexington in front.
Mauricio Ramos then doubled in Schwindel.
Benjamin brought the Tourists a bit closer in the bottom of the ninth with a solo Home Run to center. Tapia was hit by a pitch to put the tying run aboard, but Kevin Perez notched the final out to secure the win for Lexington. Benjamin finished 4-for-4.
Asheville did win the season series over Lexington 8-7 and will entertain the Rome Braves on Monday night. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
