Augusta, GA--The Augusta GreenJackets (42-44) finished their homestand with a win against the Greenville Drive (37-50) on Sunday afternoon. The final score was 10-5. Five of the GreenJacket's 10 runs were unearned due to poor defense by Greenville.
Both teams got off to a fast start, driving in two runs a piece in the first inning. After Greenville's right fielder, Forrestt Allday walked, short stop, Tzu-Wei Lin, doubled to center field, driving in the first run. Lin then scored the second run when Carlos Asuaje grounded out. The GreenJackets scored their first run on a fielding error by Tzu-Wei Lin. A single, by GreenJackets catcher Eric Sim, to right-center field drove in the team's second run.
Each team scored again in the third inning. Greenville drove in one run on a sacrifice fly,by Wendell Rijo, to take the lead. Augusta quickly scored three runs to take a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the inning. Eric Sim drove in the first run when he doubled to left field. The team's scored their second run on a fielding error by Greenville. First baseman, Gabriel Cornier, drove in the third run with a single to center field.
Greenville tied the game in the fourth inning when they drove in two runs on back-to-back doubles by Tzu-Wei Lin and Tim Roberson. It took until the sixth inning for Augusta to respond, but they did with a two run home run by Cristian Paulino on a 2-0 pitch. The home run marks his second of the season.
A fielder's choice and a wild pitch allowed the GreenJackets to score their final three runs in the eighth inning. Newly acquired GreenJacket, Robert Ramer (1-0), earned his first win with the team on Sunday. In five innings pitched, Ramer allowed two hits, issued no walks, and struck out six. Greenville's relief pitcher, Taylor Grover (0-3), took the loss. In three innings pitched, Grover gave up four earned runs on two hits, allowed one home run, and issued one walk.
The GreenJackets head to Savannah to face the Savannah Sand Gnats in a three game series on Monday, July 7th at Historic Grayson Stadium. The team will head to Greenville on July 10 to face the Drive again in a four game series. The GreenJackets return home on Tuesday, July 15th to face the Kannapolis Intimidators.
