May 12, 2016 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers today learned their potential 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Third Round opponents. Fort Lauderdale will host either Aromas Café FC and Richmond Kickers on Wednesday, June 1, at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.
"The U.S. Open Cup is important to us," said Head Coach and General Manager Caio Zanardi. "Now that we know the two teams we could be playing, we will be watching their matches closely to prepare ourselves. The NASL is a very tough league, so we need to be prepared mentally to remain competitive in both the Cup and the league."
Aromas Café FC qualified for the 103rd edition of the tournament through the United States Adult Soccer Association. The Virginia-based side defeated Tartan Devils Oak Avalon and Aegean Hawks in the qualification rounds. In the First Round on May 11, Aromas Café FC defeated National Premier Soccer League side Richmond Strikers in extra time to set up a date with the Kickers in the Second Round.
Richmond Kickers, also from Virginia, compete in the United Soccer League, the third division of professional soccer in the country. In 1995, the Kickers were crowned U.S. Open Cup Champions.
The Second Round match between Aromas Café FC and the Richmond Kickers will be played on Wednesday, May 18, at 7 pm ET.
Tickets for the Third Round match will go on sale at a later date on Strikers.com.
