New York Cosmos News Release

NEW YORK, NY - On Thursday morning, U.S. Soccer announced the Third Round pairings for the 103rd Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, with the New York Cosmos hosting the Third Round on Wednesday, June 1, at Belson Stadium on the campus of St. John's University in Queens, N.Y. at 7:30 p.m. ET. The Cosmos will host the winner of the Second Round match between Jersey Express (PDL) and NY Pancyprian Freedoms (USASA).

"We've always considered the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup a very important tournament and this year is no different," said New York Cosmos Head Coach, Giovanni Savarese. "We highly respect both, Jersey Express and NY Pancyprian Freedoms, and will work hard to put our best effort to defeat our rival. The first game of the tournament is typically one of the most difficult ones but we have confidence in our squad and capabilities."

Last year, the Cosmos defeated Jersey Express 3-0 in the Third Round of the Open Cup before they overturned a two-goal deficit to beat MLS side New York City FC via penalty kicks in front of 11,446 fans at Hofstra University, earning a spot in the Fifth Round of the Cup, as well as one of their most impressive wins in the modern era. The Cosmos fell on the road to the New York Red Bulls in the Fifth Round of the competition.

Jersey Express advanced to the second round of the USOC by defeating NPSL's Clarkstown SC Eagles 2-1 at Torne Valley Sports Complex in Hillburn, N.Y. last night. Meanwhile, NY Pancyprian Freedoms are coming off a 2-1 win over the New York Red Bulls U-23s.

Ticketing information for the Cosmos' first Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match of 2016 will be available soon.
