Cosmos B to Play in 2018 Open Cup
March 30, 2018 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
New York Cosmos News Release
NEW YORK - After a successful appeal to US Soccer and the Open Cup Committee, New York Cosmos B will be participating in the 2018 tournament. The Cosmos will be registered as a National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) team and will start in a play-in round on May 5 or 6. The opponent, start time and host venue will be determined next week.
"This is a victory for our fans," said New York Cosmos Chairman, Rocco Commisso. "I said that I would continue to fight for the Cosmos and for independent soccer. This is a win off the field and now we have a chance to win on it."
It is expected that the NPSL affiliates of the three U.S. based NASL teams, Jacksonville, Miami and New York, will be paired against either another NPSL team or a Premier Development League (PDL) team for the play-in games.
The championship for the 2018 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup will be played on September 26, 2018.
