JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - U.S. Soccer announced on Thursday the Jacksonville Armada FC will host either The Villages SC or the Charleston Battery in the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at 7 p.m. ET on Wednesday, June 1 at Southern Oak Stadium on the campus of Jacksonville University. Information on match tickets will be released soon.
The Villages SC, a Premier Development League amateur club based in The Villages, Fla., will travel to Charleston, S.C., to face United Soccer League side Charleston Battery at 7:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday, May 18 in the U.S. Open Cup second round. Charleston came out on top of two friendlies last year, defeating the Armada, 1-0, on Feb. 18, 2015, in Charleston, and winning a 2-0 contest on March 8, 2015, in Jacksonville. This season, the two sides played to a scoreless draw on March 5 in Jacksonville. The Battery is currently 2W-3D-2L in USL play.
Jacksonville fell 3-0 on May 27, 2015, in its inaugural U.S. Open Cup contest at the hands of USL side Richmond Kickers in Richmond, Va.
In its 103rd edition, the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is an annual knockout competition open to all amateur and professional soccer teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer and recognized as U.S. Soccer's national club championship.
