Strike Force Look for First Win against Cedar Rapids
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Strike force remain in search of their first win as they return home this weekend to face the Cedar Rapids River Kings, following a 91-58 loss to the Arizona Rattlers on April 6.
In last weekend's matchup, Strike Force quarterback Derrick Bernard went 8-23 for 119 yards and three touchdowns. Bernard leads the IFL in passing yards (1,102) and ranks second in the league in passing touchdowns (20). Quarterback Jihad Vercher went 7-11 for 89 yards and two touchdowns.
San Diego running back George Moreira Jr. contributed four total touchdowns in the game (two rushing, two receiving) as he had 51 yards on 11 carries and caught two passes for 24 yards. Bernard also rushed for 23 yards and a touchdown.
Strike Force wide receiver Marques Rodgers had 244 all-purpose yards and a touchdown in the loss. Rodgers leads the IFL in all-purpose yards (1,023). Wide receivers David Carter and Julian Stafford each caught a touchdown pass as well.
Cedar Rapids enters this weekend having lost four consecutive games, most recently suffering a 59-48 loss to the Iowa Barnstormers on April 6.
Last weekend, Cedar Rapids quarterback Kurt Palandech completed 14-23 passes for 154 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.
River Kings running back Nate Chavious rushed eight times for 65 yards and two touchdowns. He comes in at No. 3 in the league for rushing yards (294).
Cedar Rapids wide receiver Drake White reeled in three catches for 50 yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Marquel Wade caught four passes for 51 yards and no receiving touchdowns but scored two kick return touchdowns as he contributed eight returns for 176 yards. Wade was named the IFL Special Teams Player of the Week following his performance in the game. He ranks second in the IFL in all-purpose yards (945).
The River Kings' only victory so far this season was against San Diego on March 9. This weekend, Cedar Rapids' fourth-ranked rushing offense (106.7 ypg) will go head-to-head against San Diego's top-ranked passing offense (195.8 ypg).
The game between the Strike Force and River Kings will be played on Sunday, April 14 at 5:05 p.m. PT at Pechanga Arena San Diego and will be streamed live on the IFL's YouTube page.
