Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, Manitoba -- The Brandon Wheat Kings are pleased to announce that a very special guest will be visiting Westman Communications Group Place on Thursday, December 27th when the curtain goes up on the second half of the 2007-2008 Western Hockey League season.

The WHL club has confirmed that 25-year old Amanda Stott will be on hand next week to perform the national anthem before the Wheat Kings host the visiting Regina Pats in what will be another Eastern Division first place showdown.

Amanda, who recently relocated to Nashville, is currently writing for an upcoming project, after touring North America with Cirque Du Soleil production of "Delerium".

Amanda grew up on her family farm but her father Cyril was a saxophonist and pianist. She started singing in her church choir when she was just three years old. At the age of 17, she was signed to Warner Music Canada and her first self-titled CD was released a year later. It wasn't long before she was a regular on Country Music Television and it was no surprise when she won a Juno Award for Best New Solo Artist.

After a few years away from the spotlight, Amanda came back in 2004 not only as a beautiful young woman now in her 20s, but with a new, more adult pop sound. Her single, "Paper Rain," from Women and Songs, Vol. 8 reached #1 on the Canadian Top 40 chart. On March 8, 2005, her second CD, Chasing the Sky, was released. It included "Paper Rain" and follow up singles "Homeless Heart" and "She'll Get Over It". On this disc, Amanda took more charge of what she sings, having co-written over half of the songs.

2005 was a busy year for Amanda. In addition to singing the national anthem before the Wheat Kings' WHL home opener in September, she performed on July 1st as part of the Canada Day celebrations on Parliament Hill and sang the national anthem at a Blue Jays' - Oakland Athletics' game at Rogers Centre in Toronto. She also toured with fellow Canadian singers Keshia Chante, Christine Evans and Cassie Steele and in December, she was a part of the Holiday Train cross Canada tour.
