Lancaster Stormers News Release

After sitting on the bench for six games, Jordan Herr has made his pitch for more playing time with a loud bat.

On Sunday, the Barnstormers youthful outfielder slugged a homer and a double in the 6-4 loss at Bridgeport before leaving for a pinch hitter. Then, in a makeup game at Long Island on Monday evening, Herr tied the game with a solo homer in the ninth and won it with an RBI single in the 11th as the Barnstormers edged the Long Island Ducks, 3-2, at Citibank Park.

With the win, the Barnstormers ended a four-game skid and climbed back to within four games of the division leading York Revolution.

The Ducks grabbed an early lead in the first inning against Ben Fritz. Juan Francia led off with a single down the third base line, stole second and crossed the plate on a looping single to left center by P.J. Rose.

Long Island tacked on a second run in the third inning. Francia and Rose singled around a pair of outs. Damian Rolls sent a slicing fly ball to right center which popped out of Jutt Hileman's glove for what was ruled a double, scoring Francia for the 2-0 lead.

Meanwhile, Ducks lefty Lance Davis was perfect. Coming off a complete game three-hit shutout against Somerset, the southpaw was perfect for the first 20 batters, before Ian Bladergroen yanked a 2-2 pitch over the wall in right center, his 11th homer of the season, as Lancaster cut the lead to 2-1.

The Barnstormers did not have another man reach base, thanks to a pair of stellar defensive plays, until Herr connected off ex-Barnstormer closer Charlie Weatherby with one out in the ninth. The homer, a high fly ball into the wind in left field was Herr's fourth of the season.

With one out in the 11th, Ivanon Coffie hit a liner to right on which Kevin Haverbusch slid with the ball getting through into the alley for a double. Lefty Vic Darensbourg (4-4) retired Michael Campbell on a pop up to third, but Herr took a 1-1 pitch into right field. Haverbusch came up with the ball and fired to the plate with Coffie barely sliding past the tag of Robert Sandora.

Ryan Cullen (7-5) pitched a perfect 11th, his third inning, with two strikeouts to nail down the win.

NOTES: Lancaster is 7-8 in extra inning games this season...Long Island is 10-3...It was the 27th game won by a team in its final at bat this season...The Barnstormers had only four baserunners the entire night...Bladergroen had homered before the August 14 game was rained out...Lancaster will send LHP Eric Ackerman to the hill on Tuesday night against lefty Benito Baez of Newark...Game time is 7:05.
