Seattle Storm News Release

UPCOMING OPPONENTS

Seattle beat Minnesota 72-66 on Friday after dropping the first two meetings of the season. Friday's win was just the Storm's second in the last eight trips to Target Center. Seattle can gain a split in the season series with a win on Thursday.

Lauren Jackson's season-high 31 points fueled the Storm to a win over Sacramento on July 3, the only meeting between the teams thus far. Seattle has won four of five against the Monarchs since the beginning of 2004, but trails 11-7 in the all-time series. The two teams will clash once more on Aug. 25.

AWARD CORNER

Lauren Jackson, a leading candidate for the WNBA MVP Award, continued her stellar season with three solid games last week. The 2003 MVP averaged 20.7 points and 9.3 rebounds in the three matchups while shooting a combined 55.3% (21-for-38) from the field. She hit her 200th career three-pointer in the Aug. 9 win and posted her ninth double-double of the year in the Aug. 12 win. Jackson enters this week needing just nine field goals to reach 1,000 for her career. At 24, she will become the youngest WNBA player ever to reach the milestone.

Janell Burse continues to have a breakout season as well and is earning serious consideration for the WNBA's Most Improved Player Award. Burse averaged 11.0 points and 7.7 boards in three games last week and recorded her third double-double of the season yesterday in Houston. She is averaging career highs in points, rebounds and field-goal percentage and ranks among the league's top-20 in all three categories.
