Storm Triple Past 66ers To Take Series

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The Storm scored early and often Tuesday night at Arrowhead Credit Union Park to beat the 66ers 10-7 and win the three-game series.

Lake Elsinore sprinted out of the gate against Mario Alvarez in the first with a three-run homer to right by Matthew Clark. The Storm added four more in the fourth on an RBI double to right by Keoni Ruth, a two-run triple to right-center by Andy Parrino, and a sac fly from Danny Payne.

Parrino's triple was one of six in the ballgame with four Storm batters, Brad Chalk, Beamer Weems, James Darnell, and Parrino each clubbing one and Steve Caseres of the 66ers picking up a pair. Of Lake Elsinore's 11 hits, nine went for extra bases.

Caseres went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored on two triples, a single, and a walk.

The Sixers picked up a single run in the second and two in the sixth on Caseres' second triple of the night to pull within four, 7-3.

The Storm turned two triples and a double in the seventh into two runs to extend the lead to 9-3. They finished out their scoring in the ninth with an insurance run.

Inland Empire picked up a run in the seventh and rallied in the bottom of the ninth off Storm closer Bryan Oland with a two-run double to center by Preston Mattingly and an RBI single to center by Trayvon Robinson before succumbing to Lake Elsinore 10-7.

Dodger lefthander Hong-Chih Kuo pitched for the second night in a row and third time in four days to test his left arm. Kuo pitched a perfect 1-2-3 inning in the eighth with a strikeout.

Wynn Pelzer (9-6, 4.47) recorded the win with 6 innings pitched, yielding 4 runs on 9 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5.

Alvarez (2-3, 5.63) took the loss, surrendering 7 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks while fanning 2 over 4 innings of work.

The 66ers head to Rancho Cucamonga for a three-game set starting Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. as LHP Thomas Melgarejo (1-1, 9.19) faces the Quakes' RHP Jeremy Thorne (0-5, 5.22). The Sixers return to Arrowhead Credit Union Park Saturday, July 25 for a three game series with the Visalia Rawhide. Following the game Saturday night there will be a postgame fireworks show.
