JetHawks to Show Appreciation for Area Umpires
July 22, 2009 - California League (CalL1)
Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - The Lancaster JetHawks, as part of its efforts to support the growth of baseball in the Antelope Valley, will honor the men and women who make the game possible, the umpires, Wednesday night at the Hangar. Umpires and officials from all across the area will converge at the ballpark to be recognized for their work and to enjoy the JetHawks 7 PM game against the Lake Elsinore Storm.
Baseball is increasing in popularity in the Antelope Valley, as shown by the rising attendance of JetHawks games, by the number of local players drafted by Major League teams, and by the growth of youth and adult baseball and softball leagues. Participants would not be able to enjoy the game as much without the hard work and dedication of the umpires whose knowledge of the game, hard work, and dedication make fair competition possible.
"As someone who has spent decades in the Antelope Valley and who has supported baseball at all levels in our area, I know how important the work that the umpires do is," says JetHawks General Manager Larry Thornhill. "It's the hardest job on the field and the umpires are certainly the least appreciated people in the game. We're glad to be able to do something to recognize their importance and the JetHawks are very gratified that so many umpires have responded by deciding to join us at the Hangar for this event."
The JetHawks are home as they battle the Lake Elsinore Storm. Great ticket packages, including season tickets and flexible mini-plans, are on sale now for the 2009 season and may be ordered by calling (661) 726-5400. For more information, please visit the JetHawks official website www.JetHawks.com.
