Quakes Lose to Mavs 7-2

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- For the third consecutive day, High Desert jumped out in front of the Quakes in the first inning. After Tyson Gillies singled and stole second, he advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a ground out by Kuo Hui Lo to give the Mavs a 1-0 lead.

The Quakes had a scoring chance in the 4th inning as Efren Navarro doubled with one out and went to third on a wild pitch, but Julio Perez struck out and Jay Brossman grounded out to retire the side.

The Mavericks added a run in the top of the 5th as Kuo Hui Lo slugged his 11th home run of the year, a solo shot, the take a 2-0 advantage.

Rancho was held scoreless for the first six innings against Mavs' starter JC Ramirez, but got to him in the 7th inning. After a one-out single by Julio Perez and a two-out walk to Hector Estrella, PJ Phillips was able to triple down the right field line to score both runners and tie the game 2-2.

The Quakes had a chance to go ahead in the 8th as Andrew Romine pinch hit and walked to lead off the inning. With one out, Carlos Colmenares tripled to right center, but Romine was thrown out at the plate to keep the game tied.

In the 10th inning, Ysmael Carmona was in the game and did not pitch well. The Mavericks scored five runs on six hits highlighted by an RBI fielder's choice by Jose Yepez to give High Desert the lead, RBI singles by Carlos Peguero, Tyson Gillies and Edilio Colina and an RBI double by Jeffrey Dominguez to extend the lead to 7-2.

The Quakes went three up and three down in the 10th, but took two of three from High Desert in the series.

The Quakes will begin a three game series with the Inland Empire 66ers on Wednesday. Right hander Jeremy Thorne will start for the Quakes against right hander Josh Wall for the 66ers. Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm.
