Storm Sweep Weekend Series against Stars

Kearney, NE. - The Tri-City Storm posted a 3-1 home victory over the Lincoln Stars Saturday night at the Viaero Center to complete a two-game weekend sweep. Tri-City has now won eight consecutive games, the longest winning streak for the organization since the 2018-2019 Anderson Cup Championship season. Ben Schoen, Kyler Kovich, and Matthew Knies all netted goals for the Storm in Saturday's win over Lincoln. Todd Scott recorded his twenty-second win of the season in goal. Tri-City returns to action next weekend for three consecutive home games against the Des Moines Buccaneers. Ben Schoen scored his fifteenth goal of the season at 16:23 of Saturday's 1st period to give Tri-City a 1-0 lead. The goal was assisted by Mason Wheeler and Kyler Kovich. Wheeler's assist was his fifth of the year. The assist for Kovich was his tenth of the season. Tri-City outshot Lincoln 9-4 and the Storm carried a 1-0 lead into the 2nd period.

Kyler Kovich scored his fifth goal of the season at 14:34 of the 2nd period to put Tri-City ahead by two goals. The goal was assisted by Caden Villegas and Cole O'Hara. Villegas recorded his eighth assist of the season on the play. The assist for O'Hara was his fourteenth of the year. Tri-City outshot Lincoln 13-10 in the 2nd period and the game entered the 3rd period with Tri-City leading 2-0.

Dominic James netted the Stars' only goal of the game on the power-play less than two minutes into the 3rd period to cut Tri-City's lead in half. With less than one minute to play in the game, Matthew Knies scored an empty-net goal to seal with a two-goal victory for the Storm. The goal by Knies was his thirteenth of the season. The Storm outshot the Stars 10-6 in the 3rd period and 32-20 in the game.

Todd Scott recorded the win in goal after making nineteen saves on twenty shots. Lincoln's Aidan McCarthy recorded the loss in net after making twenty-nine saves on thirty-one shots. Kyler Kovich was named the 1st Star of Saturday's game. Ben Schoen and Matthew Knies notched 2nd Star and 3rd Star honors. Saturday's home game at the Viaero Center was played in front of a sold-out crowd of 3,250 spectators. It was the highest-attended game of the season.
