Storm Set to Open Regular Season against Musketeers

Sioux City, IA. - The Tri-City Storm is set to open the 2020-2021 regular season on the road tonight against the Sioux City Musketeers at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Earlier this week, the USHL announced a postponement of Tri-City's road game against the Des Moines Buccaneers previously scheduled for last night. Meaning, tonight's regularly scheduled road game against Sioux City will now serve as Tri-City's season opening game for its twenty-first season in organization history. The Storm finished the preseason with a perfect 6-0 record and captured the inaugural Corn Cup preseason series against the Lincoln Stars and Omaha Lancers. Tri-City will play an additional road game against the Omaha Lancers on Friday, November 13th before returning home for its home opener against the Lincoln Stars on Saturday, November 14th. Puck drop for tonight's game is set for 7:05pm.

Tri-City (0-0-0-0) opens the regular season tonight against the Sioux City Musketeers following a 9-0 home win over the Lincoln Stars in the final game of the preseason on Halloween Night. The Storm rolled through the 2020-2021 preseason and outscored its opponents by a margin of 30-8. The Storm did not allow more than two goals in a single game and twice posted shutouts. Tri-City completed the 2019-2020 shortened USHL regular season with a final record of 24-17-5-2. The Storm finished 4th place in the Western Conference and were in a position to qualify for the 2019 Clark Cup Playoffs that was not held due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Tri-City's penalty kills finished the 2019-2020 regular season at 87.8%, the best in the USHL. The Storm's power play led the Western Conference with 44 goals scored. Earlier this week, Tri-City announced its thirty player roster for opening night. The roster included twenty-five players on the Storm's protected list and five players who will be playing from the affiliate list.

Sioux City (0-0-0-0) also competed a perfect preseason schedule, finishing the exhibition slate of games with a 4-0-0-0 record. The Musketeers finished 2nd to the Storm in the 2020-2021 USHL preseason standings. Sioux City finished the 2019-2020 regular season as the last place team in the Western Conference standings. The Musketeers completed the shortened season with a final record of 16-24-7-1. Sioux City was outscored by a margin of 137-170 last season. Despite the Musketeers' struggles, Sioux City finished last season with the 4th best power play in the USHL (19.9%). In total, Sioux City will face Tri-City eight times during the 2020-2021 regular season. The four completed matchups in the 2019-2020 season, the Musketeers defeated the Storm once and dropped three games. Following tonight's home opener for Sioux City, the team will play host to Waterloo in back to back games next weekend.
