Storm Begin Regular Season with Road Victory over Sioux City

Sioux City, IA. - The Tri-City Storm opened the 2020-2021 USHL regular season with a 5-1 road victory over the Sioux City Musketeers on Saturday at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, IA. Hunter Strand (2), Cole McWard, Carter Mazur, Mark Estapa scored in the victory. Todd Scott turned away 31 of Sioux City's 32 shots on goal to record the win in net. The Storm now look ahead to a three-game weekend next weekend that includes Tri-City's home opener on Saturday, November 14th. Tri-City's first goal of the 2020-2021 regular season was scored on the power play by Hunter Strand at the 8:11 mark of the 1st period. With under one minute to play in the 1st period, Carter Mazur added another power-play goal to give Tri-City a 2-0 lead. Despite being outshot 11-10 in the 1st period, the Storm carried a two-goal lead into the 2nd period.

Cole McWard gave the Storm a 3-0 lead with a goal at 5:29 of the 2nd period. At 12:38 of the 2nd period, Mark Estapa netted an even-strength goal to increase Tri-City's lead by four. Tri-City was outshot 10-9 in the 2nd period but carried a 4-0 lead into the 3rd period.

Brian Carrabes netted the Musketeers' only goal of the game at 16:17 of the 3rd period to cut Tri-City's lead to 4-1. Sioux City elected to lift goaltender Alex Tracy for an extra attacker with just over two minutes to play in the game. Hunter Strand buried his second goal of the game into an empty net to give Tri-City the 5-1 win. Todd Scott recorded the win in goal after making 31 saves on 32 shots. The Storm finished the game 2/4 on the power play and 4/4 on the penalty kill. Sioux City outshot the Storm 32-28.

Tri-City now looks ahead to a three-game weekend that will include its 2020 Home Opener at the Viaero Center on Saturday, November 14th against the Lincoln Stars. Following its next game on the road against the Omaha Lancers on Friday, November 13th, Tri-City will host "Welcome back the Storm weekend" at the Viaero Center for its first two home games of the 2020-2021 regular season.
