Tri-City Storm News Release
KEARNEY, Neb. - Cody Murphy got the Storm rolling late in the third period, as the Tri-City Storm (18-16-6, 42 pts) came from behind to beat the Sioux City Musketeers (17-16-3, 37 pts) on Saturday night, 3-1 at the Viaero Event Center.
After a scoreless first period, the Musketeers opened the scoring 9:15 into the second period on the power play, as Adam Schmidt scored his eighth goal of the season.
Cody Murphy scored for the Storm 13:36 into the third period on an unassisted goal to tie the game at 1-1. Murphy stole the puck from Sioux City defenseman Dan Ford and fired a quick shot from the mid-slot that beat Musketeer goalie Matt Skoff.
After the Storm could not score on a five-on-three power play opportunity, Jaden Schwartz would score on the fifth power play of the night to give the Storm a lead with less than two-minutes in regulation. It was the third game-winning goal by Schwartz out of his 21 tallies this season.
The Storm's Matt Johnson added an empty-net goal 50-seconds later to insure a Tri-City victory.
It was the Storm's first win over the Musketeers this season, which gives the Storm a five-point lead over Sioux City for the fourth place spot in the West Division.
Carsen Chubak (12-12-6) made 26 saves on 27 shots in the win for the Storm. Skoff (12-12-3) made 30 saves on 32 shots in the loss for the Musketeers.
Tri-City on the power play was 1-5, while Sioux City was also 1-5 with the man-advantage.
Tri-City will travel on the road to Green Bay and Cedar Rapids this week, as the Storm battle the Gamblers on Wednesday and Friday night and play the RoughRiders on Saturday.
Notes: Tri-City finished the month of January 7-6-0, which gives them three winning months out of the four months so far this season... The Storm is now 4-0 when playing after a game in which they lose by five or more goals and 5-1 following games when they lose by four or more goals... The game was played in front of the largest crowd this season at the Viaero Event Center (attendance - 3,938)
