Tri-City Storm News Release

KEARNEY, Neb. - The Tri-City Storm (10-9-1) got five goals from five different players to defeat the Des Moines Buccaneers (9-10-1) 5-1 and extend their winning streak to five games on Saturday night at the Viaero Event Center.

The Storm were perfect on special teams, scoring a power play goal and killing off all three Des Moines power plays. Defenseman Johnny Hrabovsky also had a big night, racking up three assists.

Tim Bonner got the power play goal early in the second period on a wrist shot from the top of the right circle. Trevor Mingoia and Hrabovsky picked up the assists on the tally, which turned out to be the game winner.

Nolan Gluchowski gave the Storm a big boost, scoring the first goal of the game to make it 1-0 with just 5 seconds remaining in the first period. Gluchowski joined a rush led by Jared Linnell and found a loose puck at the top of the right circle. He fired it past Des Moines goaltender Billy Christopoulos to give Tri-City the lead going into the locker room.

Bonner's goal made it 2-0 at 7:22 of the second period and just under two minutes later, Joel L'Esperance added to the lead with his first USHL goal. After an initial shot by Trevor Mingoia, L'Esperance found a loose puck in the crease and tapped it into the net to make it 3-0 Storm.

After a goal by Max Birkinbine cut the lead to 3-1, Des Moines looked like they could be mounting a comeback, but Trevor Moore ended their hopes by scoring his eleventh goal of the season with under two minutes to play in the game.

Grant Opperman added some more insurance with his second goal of the season on a breakaway with seven seconds remaining in the game.

Tri-City heads back out on the road next weekend to face the Fargo Force in a weekend series. The Storm will return home to host Sioux Falls on Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. and Team USA on Dec. 8 at 3:05 p.m.
