Tri-City Storm News Release
KEARNEY, Neb. - The Tri-City Storm (11-9-6, 28 pts) got superb goaltending from Carsen Chubak, who had a career night making 40 saves on 42 shots. However, the Storm fell short in the shootout and lost to the Green Bay Gamblers (18-6-3, 39 pts), 3-2.
The Storm scored the opening goal just 2-minutes into the first period, as right winger Kenny Brooks received a pass from Brett Mohler from the outside-left circle and deflected the puck into the Green Bay net. Tardy earned the second assist on Brooks' third goal of the season.
With Tardy and Mohler each earning a point, the Storm now has four players who have eclipsed the 20-point mark, including Jaden Schwartz and Radoslav Illo.
Green Bay tied the game back up at 1-1, as defenseman Aaron Harstad scored his first goal of the season at the 5:33 mark in the first period.
Tri-City scored in the third period to take a 2-1 lead on defenseman Tyler Amburgey's first goal of his USHL career 12:17 into the period. Schwartz and Anthony DeCenzo were credited with the assists. Schwartz now has a seven-game point streak.
However, the Gamblers tied the game again 1-minute and 35-seconds later, as defenseman David Makowski scored his 10th goal of the season.
In the shootout, Green Bay's Ludwig Karlsson scored the only goal for either team, as the Gamblers won 3-2 in a shootout.
Chubak (8-6-6) made a career-high 40 saves on 42 shots and stopped four out-of-the five shooters in the shootout in the loss for the Storm. Green Bay's Steve Summerhays (14-2-1) made 20 saves on 22 shots and denied all five shooters in the shootout for the win.
Tri-City on the power play was 0-3, while Green Bay was 0-6 with the man-advantage. The Storm has killed 20 straight power plays against the opposition.
Tri-City will resume play following the USHL's Winter Break, as the Storm will battle the Sioux Falls Stampede on New Year's Eve at the Viaero Event Center.
Notes: Schwartz has a point in 10 of the last 11 games played and is on a current league-high seven-game point streak... the Storm only has one regulation loss on home ice with a record of 7-1-4 at the Viaero Event Center
