Storm Fall to Defending Champs, 3-1

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - For the second time in the preseason, Tri-City Storm goalie Pheonix Copley was solid making 37 saves between the pipes. However, the Storm fell to the defending Clark Cup Champions - Dubuque Fighting Saints 3-1 on the second day of the Fall Classic.

Tri-City (2-2-0 in preseason) was outshot by the Saints 12-3 in the first period, but Copley was perfect in the opening act.

Dubuque (3-1-1 in preseason) continued to dominate the shots in the second period, as they outshot the Storm 9-0. The Saints would score a controversial goal on one of the nine shots, as Michael Downing shot a puck that did not appear on the replays to cross the goal line, but gave Dubuque a 1-0 lead at the 4:41 mark in the period.

The Saints would score two more goals in the third period 1:55 apart, beginning with Eric Freschi's tally at the 14:05 mark. Zemgus Girgensons would score with 4:00 left in regulation on quick wrist shot from the right circle that beat Copley's glove side.

With five-seconds left in regulation, Soren Jonzzon would score on the power play after deflecting in a pass from Davey Middleton in front of the goal. Overall, the Storm were outshot 19-8 in the final period.

Copley picked up the loss, while Matt Morris made 10 saves on 11 shots in the win for the Saints.

Tri-City went 1-for-6 on the power play, while going 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.

The Storm will play their final game at the Fall Classic against the two-time defending Eastern Conference Champion - Green Bay Gamblers on Friday afternoon (1:00 p.m. - Classic Hits 98.9 FM). The regular season opens on September 30 against the Sioux City Musketeers at the Viaero Event Center.

Notes: The Storm did not play forwards Nick Lappin, Sean Murphy, while defenseman Dylan Maller, Dalton Spicer, Leo Guillemon, and goalies Jacob Meyers and Adam Miller were also not in the game. The Storm are 1-for-14 on the power play and 16 -for-18 on the penalty kill in the preseason. Copley has made 76 saves on 80 shots in the preseason
