Tri-City Storm News Release

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Tri-City Storm (18-20-4) had an early third period lead but ultimately fell to the Lincoln Stars (24-14-3) by a final score 4-3 at the IceBox in Lincoln on Friday night.

Storm captain Brian Ward scored two goals for Tri-City in the loss, while Joel L'Esperance scored his fourth tally of the season and defenseman Garrett Cecere picked up two assists.

Tri-City got ahead early in the game when L'Esperance beat Lincoln goaltender Michael Bitzer with a wrist shot at 2:37 of the opening period. Storm forward Garrett Gamez was credited with the first assist after keeping the puck in the zone at the blue line and getting it over to his center.

The Storm led for most of the first but Lincoln tied the game with a goal by defenseman Eric Schurhamer with under two minutes remaining in the period.

In the second, the Stars got a goal from forward Jimmy DeVito at 8:46 to make it 2-1 and take their first lead of the game.

But late in the period Ward scored his first of the game, beating Bitzer off a pass from his newest teammate Ben Foster with just over three minutes remaining in the frame.

As the period came to a close, Lincoln's Zack Frye was whistled for roughing and Tri-City was given a two-man advantage to begin the third.

The Storm took advantage of that opportunity and took the lead just 25 seconds in on Ward's second goal of the night.

But the Stars responded with a tally just over two minutes later by Zack Pittman to tie the game back at 3-3.

The game remained deadlocked until Lincoln got the game-winning goal from Phillip Marinaccio with 2:01 remaining.

Justin Quale got the start in net for Tri-City and took the loss, making 31 saves on 35 shots.

The Storm will be back at the Viaero Event Center Saturday night to face the Fargo Force at 7:05 p.m.
