Storm Defeats Aces 97-83 to Open 2021 Campaign

The Seattle Storm kicked off the 2021 season with a 97-83 win over the Las Vegas Aces. Breanna Stewart led all scorers with 28 points, adding a game-leading 13 rebounds for a double-double. Jewell Loyd scored 22 while shooting 56.3 from the field, and Sue Bird dished out eight assists in the 2020 WNBA Finals rematch.
Bird scored 11, and passed Lisa Leslie for No. 7 all-time in WNBA scoring with her first points of the game.
The Aces got off to a hot start, taking the first seven points of the game and leaving the Storm scrambling to catch up. Seattle's bench came in to make a comeback by the end of the first quarter, with guard Jordin Canada hitting a buzzer beater to put the Storm up 27-26 after one.
In the second quarter, Seattle's stars reigned as they dominated 22-14, with guard Sue Bird hitting back-to-back threes. The Storm finished the half up 49-40 on Las Vegas, with forward Stewart leading scoring with 10 points.
The Storm kicked off the first quarter with a 10-0 run, highlighted by Stewart and Loyd threes. Stewart recorded her 10th defensive rebound for the 36th double-double of her career.
Las Vegas opened the fourth quarter with four straight and outscored Seattle 26-25 in the frame, but the Storm held on to the double-digit lead for the win.
