Storm Defeat Lancers 3-2 in a Shootout

Ralston, NE. - The Tri-City Storm completed a three game weekend with a shootout victory over Omaha on Sunday night in Ralston, NE. The victory for the Storm was the 3rd against the Lancers this season, evening up the season series at 3-3. Keaton Pehrson and Brian Hawkinson scored goals for Tri-City in regulation, and Filip Forsmark scored the shootout winner to give the Storm the win. Filip Larsson stopped 38 of 39 Omaha shots during regulation and overtime and denied all six Lancer shooters in the shootout.

Omaha opened up the 1st period with a goal two minutes and two seconds into the game. Filip Suchy scored his 16th of the season and first of the night to give the Lancers a 1-0 lead on home ice. Cole Gallant and Jesper Peltonen assisted on the goal. Omaha outshot Tri-City 16-4 in the first period and took a one goal lead into the 2nd period.

The Storm got on the board at 7:28 of the 2nd period with Keaton Pehrson scoring his 1st goal of the season. Tyler Madden picked up the lone assist on the goal. Brian Hawkinson notched his 4th tally of the season at 14:31 of the 2nd period to give Tri-City a 2-1 lead. Jack Summers assisted on the Storm goal. Tri-City held a 2-1 lead after forty minutes.

Omaha would respond in the 3rd period, tying the game up 71 seconds into the period. Filip Suchy scored his 2nd goal of the night and 17th of the season to tie the game at 2-2. Cameron Ginnetti and Mathieu De St. Phalle assisted on the game tying tally. It was the only goal scored by either team in the 3rd period and the game entered overtime with a 2-2 score.

Overtime was filled with end to end action and great saves by each goaltender, but the game would ultimately require a shootout to find a winner. Tri-City and Omaha went through five shootout rounds with no goals scored. Filip Forsmark scored a goal in the first shot of the 6th shootout round, and Filip Larsson stopped Mathieu De St Phalle to seal the victory for the Storm. Larsson denied all six shooters in the shootout round and improved to 16-5 in the win.

Filip Forsmark was named 1st Star of the Game, with Filip Larsson picking up 2nd Star honors.

The Storm return to action Friday night in Waterloo, IA in a matchup against the Waterloo Blackhawks. The broadcast will begin at 6:45pm on HockeyTV and the Breeze 94.5FM. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
