Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
The Sioux Falls Stampede rallied past the Waterloo Black Hawks Sunday to claim a 3-2 overtime win at Young Arena.
Fifty-five seconds into the extra period, Reid Stefanson capitalized from close range when he collected a pass from the opposite circle; he flipped his shot into the net before Jared Moe could slide from right to left. The winning goal completed the second reversal of the game.
A hustle play had given the Stampede the only score of the first period. Colin Swoyer put a shot on net from center, which handcuffed Moe. The puck bounced away from the Waterloo goalie, only to be scooped up by Marko Reifenberger, who was zipping up the slot and lifted in a quick shot.
Waterloo swung the score the opposite way in the second period. Evan Dougherty's pass turned Joey Cassetti loose on left wing at 3:27. Cassetti targeted his shot from the left circle over the shoulder of Jaxson Stauber. The Hawks then went ahead during a power play four-and-a-half minutes later. Jack Drury was behind the Sioux Falls goal and connected with Garrett Wait at the top of the crease. Wait's shot had just enough behind it to trickle through Stauber and across the line. The Hawks' lead lasted more than a period, but Jaxon Nelson tied the contest at 12:34 of the third. Nelson found a rebound from Kevin Conley's shot and knocked it in with a quick release.
The Hawks play two games next weekend versus the USHL-leading Tri-City Storm.
