CEDAR RAPIDS, Ia. - After falling behind early, the Tri-City Storm (14-14-4) made a valiant comeback attempt but just fell short, losing to the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (13-) on Friday night by a final score of 3-2 at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.

Tim Bonner picked up assists on both Storm goals late in the third period, finding both Trevor Moore and Garrett Gamez for tallies in front of the net.

The RoughRiders took the lead with a power play goal late in the first period by Davey Middleton. The goal came with just 1:45 left in the frame and gave Cedar Rapids a 1-0 lead at the end of one.

Cedar Rapids extended the lead in the second with two more goals from Clark Kuster and Jack Rowe to lead 3-0 heading into the third and final period.

Tri-City started goaltender Justin Quale in net, but elected to replace Quale with Johan Mattsson after Cedar Rapids scored their third goal of the night. Mattsson was perfect in relief, making 10 saves on 10 shots to allow his team to make a comeback.

Moore got his team on the board with a goal at 13:31 of the third when he beat RoughRider goaltender Steve Michalek to make it 3-1. The forward now has 14 goals on the season to lead the team.

Gamez then put the Storm in striking distance with his sixth of the season. Bonner found his teammate on the inside of the left circle and Gamez beat Michalek to cut the lead to 3-2 with over three minutes remaining in the game.

But Tri-City couldn't even things up in the final minutes and the comeback fell short. The win was the first for Cedar Rapids against the Storm this season.

Tri-City will now head to Lincoln for a Saturday night tilt with the Stars. The game is scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m.

The Storm's next home game will be against Fargo on Jan. 11 at the Viaero Event Center.
