AMJ Player of the Week
The Guelph Storm announced today that goaltender Cody St. Jacques is the AMJ Campbell Van Lines Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, October 4th.
Cody St. Jacques played in only one of the Storm's two games this weekend, but can still be considered the top player. Having started every game he's played on the road so far this season, the 19 year old made 38 saves in his team's 2-1 victory over the Niagara IceDogs on Saturday. Named the first star of the game, the Iroquois Falls native posted a goals against average of 1.00 and a save percentage of 0.974 in the 60 minute span. The Storm's third consecutive victory had a lot to do with St. Jacques performance as he turned away a number of Niagara's quality scoring chances.
Re-acquired by the Storm in the offseason, St. Jacques has played in two contests so far this season. With an overall save percentage of 0.918, St. Jacques ranks among the top 10 goaltenders in the league.
Next up, the Storm welcome the red-hot Soo Greyhounds to the Sleeman Centre on Friday night. Skating Coach Barb Underhill in Battle of the Blades
One of eight former world class figure skaters picked to participate in Battle of the Blades, Barb is paired with former New York Ranger Ron Duguay. Sunday in their debut, the pair wore hockey skates and stole the show skating to Unchain My Heart by Joe Cocker.
Described as "hot" by Kelly Hrudy, Barb and Ron scored a combined 17.2 from the judges to take the highest score of the night. The pair survived the first round of "cuts" and will be back next Sunday on CBC to perform for the judges one more time.
Hosts Ron MacLean and Kurt Browning host the show at Maple Leaf Gardens in front of a live studio audience and viewers from across the country every Sunday and Monday.
