Storm Celebrates 10th Anniversary on Saturday

SEATTLE, Wednesday, July 29, 2009 - The Seattle Storm will celebrate its 10th Anniversary and the Storm All-Decade Team on Saturday, Aug. 1. The matchup against the San Antonio Silver Stars will tip off at 7 p.m. in KeyArena. The first 3,000 fans to pass through KeyArena's doors will receive a commemorative Storm All-Decade Team poster.

Prior to tipoff, former Storm players will sign autographs in the southwest corner of KeyArena from 6:15-6:45 p.m. The Storm legends scheduled to appear include Michelle Marciniak, Semeka Randall, Jamie Redd, Astou Ndiaye-Diatta, Sheri Sam, Simone Edwards, Kamila Vodichkova, Kate Paye and Robin Threatt-Elliot.

Paul Silvi of KING 5 will host the 10th Anniversary Storm Trivia contest during a second-quarter timeout. Participants will compete for a courtside seat upgrade.

During halftime, the Storm will honor its All-Decade Team, Storm fans and former Storm Chairperson Ginger Ackerley in a special ceremony. Ackerley is known as the driving force behind establishing a WNBA franchise in Seattle. She served as Co-President and Co-Chair of The Ackerley Group, which then owned the Seattle SuperSonics.

All-Decade Team members in attendance include current Storm players Sue Bird, Lauren Jackson, Swin Cash and Janell Burse, and former Storm players Simone Edwards, Kamila Vodichkova and Adia Barnes. The three remaining members of the All-Decade team are unable to attend due to current team commitments: Tully Bevilaqua (Indiana), Betty Lennox (Los Angeles) and Iziane Castro-Marques (Atlanta).

WNBA President Donna Orender will also be in attendance.

In addition to game day festivities, the Storm will host two community events the day before the game. On Friday, July 31, Storm legends will host a youth basketball clinic at Vulcan Real Estate's Denny Playfield in South Lake Union. Jamie Redd, Simone Edwards, Kamila Vodichkova, Sheri Sam and Robin Threatt-Elliot will provide instruction to clinic participants.

Boys and girls, ages 7-14, from the Montlake Community Center will attend the clinic. The event will open with a Q&A session from 11:30-11:40 a.m., followed by a basketball drills and skills session from 11:40 a.m.-12:20 p.m. To conclude the festivities, Storm legends will sign autographs from 12:20-12:30 p.m.

On Friday night, fans can meet and congratulate members of the Storm's All-Decade Team from 7-9 p.m. at SPORT Restaurant & Bar. Attendees will be able to participate in a Q&A hosted by Storm play-by-play announcer Dick Fain and KOMO 4's Eric Johnson, get autographs from the current and former Storm stars, and enjoy extended happy hour beverages and appetizers for $3, as well as a special Seattle Storm drink.
